There's a little-known electronic gadget -- one that's generally not available alongside the colorful big-screen TVs and bass-pounding sound systems in seductive, sparkly urban consumer-electronics mega-stores -- that can be a life-changing device, nonetheless. For some people, it's much more important than the latest 4.7-inch smartphone.

SK Telecom's Atti learning robot hands-on (video)
SK Telecom was at Mobile World Conference last year with some early concepts of a learning robot -- aka, angry Beaker with a top hat -- which seems to have led to this year's final product: Atti. Atti is Korean for buddy or friend and judging by how he (or she?) and Brad got along we'd suggest robo is aptly named. Using a phone snapped into the top of the head, the robot reacts to your interaction with it via camera and a wand attachment that sits in Atti's hand while not in use. Educational games are another focus here using Qualcomm's Vuforia tech allowing youngsters to point the handset at printed words and get tips on pronunciation, multimedia examples and the like.
Atti was developed with the help of the Utah State University to help develop the edutainment content and expects to see this hit retail in overseas markets sometime in the first half of the year. Unfortunately we didn't have any preschoolers on hand so we used our own Brad Molen to put Atti through its paces. The end result? Brad nails a high score and gets a star. Boost Mobile getting the HTC One SV on March 7
The HTC One SV is a very capable mid-level Android phone, and today we found out that it will be available on Boost Mobile starting March 7 -- complete with 4G LTE service. With the Snapdagon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM, the extremely thin and well built One SV will certainly be a treat for existing -- and new -- Boost customers.
The One SV will be available on Boost's no-contract shrinking price Android plan. What that means is that the first month's service will be $55, and every six months the payments are on-time will drop $5 off the monthly price until you hit $40. The phone itself will cost $299.99, but remember that is the full, no contract price you're seeing.
A phone this nice (check the review, I thought it was dandy) for just $40 monthly on Boosts "unlimited" plan sounds like a sweet deal. Hit the break for the full press release.

More VC activity in European e-commerce: Windeln.de, an online shop for baby products in Germany (or Diapers.com clone), has raised a €15 million (~$19.6m) new round of funding from existing investors DN Capital and Acton Capital Partners, while new investors MCI and 360 Capital Partners also participated. We understand that DN capital and MCI co-led the round. The new capital will be used to expand the product offering and improve customer service, as well as enter additional European markets. Claiming to be Germany's largest web store for daily baby products, Munich-based Windeln, offers more than 20,000 products of over 300 brands, that cab be ordered for home delivery.
